HOLLYWOOD VISUAL FX ARTIST OFFERS KIDS & TEENS UNIQUE FILMMAKING CLASSES
ROWLAND HEIGHTS, CA – JANUARY 23, 2013 – For the first-time, elementary and high school students have the opportunity to explore the world of filmmaking and ignite their creativity with a new series of courses, including Intro to Filmmaking, Intro to Visual Fx/Animation, Game Design and Creative Digital Photography. Offered by Caustics Digital Academy at schools in the Rowland Unified School District, classes are taught by professional Hollywood Visual Fx Artist Roger Huynh, who has worked on numerous feature films such as Wreck it Ralph, BOLT and Lord of the Rings. Students will be exposed to the filmmaking process and will learn self-expression, storytelling and see their ideas come alive on film. Caustics Digital Academy will offer an “Intro to Digital Filmmaking Course” for students ages 8 – 12 at two locations: at Oswalt Academy for 5th – 8th graders starting February 1 on Fridays from 3 to 5:30 p.m., and at Blandford Elementary for 4th – 6th graders starting February 5 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Students must bring a tape or digital video camera (no iPhone, flip camera or still photography camera). Space is limited to 20 students. Fees are $125 for the four-week course.
For students who are interested in pursuing the 3D animation/visual fx industry, “Intro to Visual Fx/Animation” classes will be offered starting March 2 at Nogales High School for students in grades 9th – 12th, where they will learn Maya, a 3D software widely used in the movie industry. Classes are Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (March 2 – 30) and the fee is $250. Space is limited to 20 students and the class will meet at the Nogales High School Computer Lab D5.
